Description of the building for people with visual disabilities

The Institute of Sociology of the Jagiellonian University is located in the building of Collegium Broscianum at 52 Grodzka Street. Apart from the Institute of Sociology, there are also Institutes of Philosophy, Religious Studies and the Department of Comparative Civilization Studies.

The door to the building is located in the courtyard between the Collegium Broscianum building and the Church of Saints Peter and Paul.

Courtyard

From Grodzka Street to the courtyard you enter through the pedestrian gate by climbing three steps.

The building is located on the left side of the pavement paved with granite.

The courtyard can also be accessed through the entrance to the parking lot next to the pedestrian entrance gate. On the left side of the barrier, there is a button for calling a porter, which can help a person with a disability.

There are three entrances from the courtyard to the building. Two of them are on the left side of the pavement, the third one is in the opposite building - along the same pavement, on the right side (adjacent to the church). It is the so-called "third gate" leading to the premises of the Department of Sociology of Economy, Education and Social Research Methods on the ground floor and lecture hall No. 71, the Department of Social Research on Religion and the Department of Social Communication on the second floor.

A person with a mobility disability can get an alternative route through room 79. In general, however, groups with persons with such disabilities are transferred to fully accessible rooms.

The main entrance to the building is the first door on the left side of the pavement.

Main entrance

The main entrance to the Collegium Broscianum building is a double door. Right behind them, on the right, there is a reception, opposite to which there is an information board about the rooms in the building.

A little further to the left is the notice board where you can find information about artistic events, discussions and student offers.

Ground floor

On the ground floor there is also a Focus Room (research laboratory) and a room for the IT team. They are accessed by a corridor directly behind the inner door, preceded by three contrasting stairs. There is a mobile ramp for wheelchairs next to the stairs. On the right are the premises of the Institute of Philosophy, on the left are a row of windows overlooking the inner courtyard. Straight ahead (second door on the right) there is a men's toilet, while the corridor turns right leading to the Focus Room (the last door on the wall on the left) and the IT team's room (ahead).

To go to the main part of the building, turn left behind the notice board at the entrance. Passing another double-leaf door, on the right side we find stairs (marked in contrast) leading to the first and second floor to the rooms.

Behind the stairs there is an elevator with voice prompts. It also provides access to the floors where sociology classes are held. On the right, behind the elevator, there is a door with a cloakroom behind it.

First floor

The rooms of the Institute of Sociology are located to the left of the stairs and the elevator, behind the internal single-leaf glazed doors. Further on, there is a single-leaf glazed door, behind which, on the left-hand wall, is the entrance to the Library. Libraries' employees provide assistance in the use of the collections.

In front of the Library there are stairs leading down to the rooms not used by the Institute of Sociology. Be careful as they are not marked with a contrast.

Going left from room 60 along the wall, we reach a corridor where there are other rooms occupied by the Institute of Sociology.

Second floor

You can get there by wooden stairs from the hall on the first floor. On the right side we pass a double door leading to room no. 69 ("blind" doors built from the inside), and further behind the bend of the wall, which is part of the arch supporting the ceiling, you will come across a corridor with the following rooms on the left side:

  • 75 - room for employees of the Institute

  • 81 to the left of it.

The corridor on the next wall on the left leads to rooms belonging to the Institute of Philosophy. Next to it, on the left, there is the only toilet in the building adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. You can also get to the second floor by stairs from the main hall or by elevator. Then go left and go through the corridors belonging to the Institute of Philosophy. Finally, on the left, we will find a toilet for people with disabilities and the entrance to the premises of the Institute of Philosophy, and straight ahead, room 81.

Rest area

There are many places on the premises of the Institute where you can sit and spend your free time. Students use the benches and a sofa on the second floor. They are located between rooms 80 and 81. In addition, a corner for individual work and relaxation is also located in the premises of the Institute of Music at the Jagiellonian University in the so-called Catalog - chairs, sofas, tables. A similar place to rest for students is located in the hall next to rooms 73 and 74 (sofa, tables, pouffes).

Windows and benches between the windows on the first floor in the main hall, on the opposite side of the work rooms, are also often used.

There is no canteen or shop in the building. & nbsp;

A smoking room for students is located in the courtyard in front of the entrance. There are ashtrays and benches where you can sit and spend time.
