Call for Papers:
Social Science Research Methods and the Global Pandemic

Covid-19 is a global pandemic, the reality of which has quickly changed societies and institutions, and thus impacts our daily practices, private and work lives, and relations with other people.

Social science researchers from a wide range of disciplines and fields have begun to investigate the pandemic’s impact. They seek to use methods of data collection and analysis that are suitable for this new research environment.

"Ask: Research and Methods", co-published by The Ohio State University Libraries and the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences, calls for methodological articles from across the social sciences that account for the new research environment created by the Covid-19 pandemic. Suggested areas of inquiry include:

- Challenges and possibilities of internet and telecommunication methods for survey or qualitative data collection

- Contending with interruptions to data collection

- Analytical approaches to modelling rare events

- New data and methods opportunities for the analysis of the Covid-19 pandemic’s social, economic, or political impact

- Ethical concerns in the conduct of social research during the pandemic

Ask: Research and Methods is a peer-reviewed academic journal devoted to the methodology of social science research. Since 1995, its mission has been to publish innovative work in the social sciences that focuses on methodological issues inherent to all phases of social research. ASK welcomes articles on a broad range of topics and a variety of methodologies including, but not limited to: operationalization of concepts, sampling, interviewing, observation and other fieldwork issues, quantitative and qualitative techniques, research ethics, data management and archiving, and methods of cross-national comparisons. ASK, listed in Poland’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education, is indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), ERIH, and CEEOL, among others.
