1. Anthropological research project investigating the meanings, spread and appropriation of fascist practices and symbols among young people. An ethnographic study beginning from combat sports contexts in Poland and Italy

As part of the ERC project The world behind a word. An anthropological exploration of fascist practices and meanings among European youth [F-WORD] the candidate will investigate the meanings and spread of symbols and practices related to fascism among young people in Poland. The project uses the term fascism as a heuristic device to be investigated ethnographically as it appears outside the arenas of political parties, beginning from the world of martial arts and combat sports understood as critical junctures. The research brings into dialogue the history of the 20th century and politics of memory with the spread and meanings attributed to the symbology related to the world of fascism today, adopting an intersectional approach. The candidate will work in collaboration with the F-WORD team, engaging in continuous theoretical and ethnographic exchange with other team members and participating in the monthly team meetings

The applicant is asked to send a motivation letter outlining why he or she intends to participate in the project and take part in the F-WORD team.
Prior experience with martial arts or combat sports.
Prior experience carrying out ethnographic research on contemporary political movements.
Prior experience with or inclination to use feminist ethnographic methods.
Teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Communication skills and empathic understanding abilities.
Knowledge of the Polish language.

Requirements: Ph.D. in anthropology, sociology or related discipline, with demonstrated experience conducting ethnographic research.

As part of the ERC project The world behind a word. An anthropological exploration of fascist practices and meanings among European youth [F-WORD]the candidate will explore how feminist ethnography contributes to the development of an anthropology of fascism.The project uses the term fascism as a heuristic device to be investigated ethnographically as it appears outside the arenas of political parties,beginning from the world of martial arts and combat sports understood as critical junctures and adopting an intersectional approach and feminist ethnographic analytical methodology.The aim of the project is to investigate,from an ethnographic and historical perspective,the relationship between various forms of fascism in history and contemporary Europe(in Belgium, Italy and Poland in particular)and womens rights.The candidate will work in collaboration with the F-WORD team,engaging in continuous theoretical and ethnographic exchange with the other team members and participating in meeting.

4. History and communication of fascism and resistance in the public sphere in Italy, Belgium and Poland

As part of the ERC project The world behind a word. An anthropological exploration of fascist practices and meanings among European youth [F-WORD] the candidate will investigate how the fascist past and the memory politics are managed, narrated and spread in Belgium, Italy and Poland. The candidate will carry out a diachronic research from 1945 to today regarding the use and dissemination of terminologies and symbols related to fascism, particularly in the following spheres: institutional (laws, memory politics, celebrations), political (parties, programs, electoral results) and cultural (school programs, public history, literature, media, sport). The research will be carried out using various methodologies: archival study, review of secondary literature, focus groups with history teachers in schools, and participation in national celebrations and sport events.The candidate will work in collaboration with the F-WORD team, maintaining a continuous exchange of ideas with the team members.
