Inter-branch space design workshops NEW SPACE

Description of the workshops

Inter-branch space design workshops NEW SPACE have cognitive and practical goals.

The interdisciplinary nature of the project is very important, implemented through the participation of students, researchers and academic staff from five faculties and four universities (ASP, PK, AGH, Jagiellonian University). Thanks to the intensive form of cooperation it is possible to exchange knowledge, experiences and skills.

Students of sociology share their knowledge and skills in the field of sociology of space, social psychology or social research methodology and they will enrich their knowledge and skills in the field of socially ethical, functional design space, vibroacoustics, including possibilities and limitations related to the practical implementation of spatial concepts .

The cognitive goals consist of searching for answers to questions about the recipient's / user's expectations in the context of functional and aesthetic shaping of urban space and indicating the theoretical and practical relationships of these processes.

In other words workshop participants are looking for answers to questions, including:

  • Is the function and aesthetics of urban places important for the recipient / user?
  • Is the relationship with the place as the essence of public space - dictated by its function, form or aesthetics?
  • To what extent can the needs of the inhabitants be / are implemented primarily in spaces with predominant aesthetic features, and to what extent with functional features?
  • Or maybe the aesthetic features only complement the functional public space?

The objectives of the NEW SPACE program are:

  • integration of the professional environment
  • training the skills of cooperation in multi-sector teams
  • sensitizing to problems related to urban public space and their possible solutions
  • diagnosis and design of urban spaces
  • improving professional competences
  • promoting the developed solutions and their authors and authors (through exhibitions, sharing projects with municipal institutions, catalogs and publications)
